Aproach

PlatILPlus project proposes to enhance the circularity of PGMs and REEs through the development of a hydrometallurgical process based on task-specific and green ionic liquids (ILs) and their derivatives, zwitterions, and deep eutectic solvents (DES). The project's uniqueness lies in developing alternative hydrometallurgical solvents, specifically "water-in-salt" electrolyte solutions as lixiviants and ILs-based aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) as responsive separation platforms. By incorporating these advancements, the project aims to surpass the current state of the art in recycling spent automotive catalytic converters (SACCs), resulting in a highly efficient and sustainable process.
