Impact

PlatILPlus project outcomes are expected to have both short and long-term societal and economic impacts by changing the antagonism between metal exploitation and nature preservation through the valorization of urban waste while creating new jobs in the green economy. The increased selectivity and process integration envisioned will yield a decrease in the number of downstream operations and the use of raw materials/solvents and energy resources, thus reducing the economic and environmental impact. Closing the resource loop through recycling keeps the raw material within a European context, thereby reducing the demand for mining from primary ores. The objectives and expected outcomes of the PlatILPlus project align with Goals 9, 12 and 13 of the UN SDGs and the Portuguese Circular Economy Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation.
